Hello and welcome back to Eve.
Despite what others may say, mission running is good steady income. Depending on your skills and ship fit, they can be blitzed fairly easy, especially with advanced Intel from Mission Reports.
Salvaging and looting everything is in my opinion a must do activity when running level 1 and level 2 missions. When you move into level 3 and level 4 missions you can then be more selective with which missions you loot and salvage. Generally loot and salvage if there's a lot of wrecks, if there's only a few wrecks, well, it's up to you.
I usually carry Salvage Drones with me and if there's only a few wrecks I'll set the drones into action while I cherry pick through the loot, only taking meta level 3 and meta level 4 items. If there's a lot of wrecks, I bookmark the mission area, complete the mission with agent and return to area with Noctis ship (bonus salvage ship). I loot and salvage everything and later re-process the low meta level loot into minerals.
Basically Level 3 missions have the best standing gain verses time spent for completion whereas Level 4 missions have the best LP / Reward gain.
As for increasing the amount of reward and or advancing up quicker in mission levels, train up the various Social skills.
Social skill increases amount of standing gained for completing missions. Connections skill increases your current amount of positive standing. Negotiation skill increases the amount of mission and bonus reward gained.
Agent Divisional skills - Security Connections, Distribution Connections, Mining Connections - increases Loyalty Points gained for completing missions in Agents Division.
Can't really say what ship to run or how to fit it due to not knowing your skills / level. I usually go to Battleclinic and view different loadouts and use the best one as a basic guide in EFT. With character stats/skills imported to EFT, I then refit the basic guide from Battleclinic to get the best overall stats available for the ship. After saving the ship fit, I then do the actual fit up in-game.
Exploration, depending on location and again your skills, can generate some good ISK. However it's hit and miss so don't be fooled by those who say they make millions per hr. Exploration is an excellent activity to mix in with mission running. That will decrease the likelihood of you getting burned out / bored with a specific activity. Basically just mix up the routine - run some missions for a while, then do some exploration.
As it is with most everything in this game, doing a little bit of research / google search on the various topics will help a lot.
Good luck to you.
